In an ideal world your server will never go down. We know from experience that isn't the case. While there are many ways to ensure downtime is kept to an absolute minimum, one area that is difficult to plan for is a datacenter outage. Nobody is immune to datacenter outages: you may have noticed some recent articles about a power failure at Rackspace and even Amazon.com has been offline. One solution is to maintain a warm backup in an independent datacenter. Since June 2008 ANU have space available in a 2nd datacenter in Amsterdam and can offer our customers space to host a backup server there. We can assist in planning your application to run in parallel across both locations, or with planning for manual DNS failover.
